Draft regulations may soon require certain retailers to accept cash again for essential purchases like groceries and fuel. The intent isn't to reverse progress, but to ensure people aren't locked out when technology fails, or when cash is simply their preferred way to pay.

For larger operations, this could mean reintroducing cash handling processes, training staff, and tightening controls. For many smaller businesses, there's a $10 million turnover exemption, but it only works if your records clearly support it.

Beyond compliance, there's a more practical question worth asking: If EFTPOS went down tomorrow, could your business still trade?

This shift is less about nostalgia and more about resilience, customer choice, and preparedness.
